Reporting Relationship
Reports to: Marketing Director
Collaborates with: Marketing & Content Team, Executive Leadership, External Partners, Community Engagement team, and other departments as necessary.
Role Overview
The Social Media Specialist will help shape and grow Sharing Excess’s digital presence, with a primary focus on Instagram and TikTok. This role is responsible for creating engaging content, capturing in-the-field storytelling, and driving audience growth through creative, trend-aware strategies.
You will be a key voice of the brand—bringing energy, authenticity, and empathy to every piece of content while helping translate real-world impact into compelling digital storytelling.
Responsibilities Include
- Create, develop, and post engaging content across Instagram and TikTok
- Capture in-person content at food rescues, community events, and pop-ups
- Collaborate with the content team on editing and polishing video/photo content
- Post and manage Instagram Stories, including live and behind-the-scenes coverage
- Monitor social media trends and creatively “newsjack” relevant moments
- Track and report on content performance to inform strategy and growth
- Support campaign execution for awareness and fundraising initiatives
- Contribute to content calendars and overall social media strategy
- Help grow audience engagement, reach, and brand visibility
- Represent the Sharing Excess voice: bold, young, empathetic, and mission-driven
You’ll Have
- Experience creating content for social media platforms (especially Instagram and TikTok)
- Strong understanding of social media trends, formats, and audience engagement
- Social Media optimized Video editing and content production skills
- Ability to capture content in dynamic, real-world environments
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, startup-style environment
It’s Amazing If You Also Have
- Experience filming and editing short-form video content
- A strong personal or professional social media presence
- Experience covering live events or creating in-the-field content
- A strong sense of storytelling and visual creativity
- Familiarity with analytics tools and performance tracking

- You are comfortable being in the field and capturing content in real time
- You stay on top of trends and know how to adapt them to a mission-driven brand

Employment Details
- Start Date: ASAP
- Compensation: $45-52 per hour based on experience
- Schedule: Part-time, hybrid
- Location: Must be available to film in Philadelphia, with additional travel as needed
