Role Highlight

The Wholesale Rescue Market Director is a mission-critical leader who will oversee all of SE’s wholesale operations, ensuring that this high-volume food rescue program runs efficiently, strategically, and in alignment with organizational goals. These operations are strategically located inside major produce terminal warehouses where Sharing Excess sources, sorts, and redistributes produce donations from some of the most prominent wholesale produce vendors in the country. In this role, you would be overseeing and maintaining current operations, teams, and partnerships in Philadelphia, New York, Detroit, Chicago, and assisting with growing and opening operations in other major produce markets throughout the country.

This role works closely with the Head of Food Rescue Operations and oversees individual Program Directors. You will be expected to drive operational excellence, build cross-functional systems, and help scale one of the most unique food rescue operations in the country.

This role requires strategic thinking, a skilled people leader, and someone who thrives in a fast-paced, continually evolving environment.

Responsibilities Include

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee day-to-day wholesale rescue operations across 4 geographical footprints (and growing) and ensure high-quality, efficient, and reliable program execution.

  • Partner with the Head of Food Rescue Operations to design and implement strategic operational initiatives.

  • Develop and refine standard operating procedures (SOPs) across all wholesale programs.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Directly supervise and support Program Directors running wholesale operations in multiple regions.

  • Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture that emphasizes innovation, accountability, professional development, and mission alignment.

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and training efforts for program teams in coordination with HR.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Food Rescue, Distribution, HR, and Strategy teams to align programs and streamline processes.

  • Collaborate with HR on talent management, training structures, and team engagement practices.

  • Partner with the Operations Analyst to ensure data is informing program decisions.

Data Driven Strategy

  • Utilize operational insights and KPIs to identify inefficiencies, optimize workflows, and guide strategic improvements.

  • Regularly assess program performance, cost efficiency, volume metrics, and service quality.

  • Implement data-informed decisions to enhance impact and sustainability.

Budget & Resource Management

  • Assist in developing operational budgets and ensure responsible allocation of resources.

  • Provide input on staffing needs, capital investments, and operational scaling.

Stakeholder & Community Engagement

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners to maximize food distribution impact.

  • Represent Sharing Excess at community events, industry convenings, and stakeholder meetings.

  • Collaborate with partner organizations to strengthen regional wholesale rescue ecosystems.

You’ll Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations, Nonprofit Management, or related field (Master’s preferred).

  • 3+ years experience in operations leadership, team management, or multi-site program oversight—nonprofit or food-industry experience strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated success managing large teams and complex operational systems.

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

  • Passion for food security, sustainability, and community impact.

Salary Range

Competitive, commensurate with experience $70-90k based on experience and location
