About Sharing Excess:
Role Highlight:
The Assistant Rescue Driver supports the Food Rescue Van Driver in completing daily food
rescue routes. Starting each day at PWPM, the Assistant Rescue Driver helps load, weigh, and
track donations picked up from retail and food business partners, then assists with unloading at
recipient organizations such as food pantries and food banks. This role is a key part of SE’s
retail rescue operations and directly ensures that rescued food reaches the community partners
who rely on it.
Responsibilities Include:
• Arrive at PWPM on time to depart with the Food Rescue Van Driver on assigned route.
• Weigh and record donations from retail and food business partners using provided
scales.
• Help hand-load boxes of food donations into the van, making judgment calls on any food
in inedible condition.
• Input donation data into the Sharing Excess app accurately and in a timely manner.
• Assist with unloading donations at recipient partner organizations (food pantries and
food banks).
• Serve as a reliable, friendly presence with SE’s donor and recipient partners.
• Follow all food safety protocols throughout the route.
You'll have:
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Ability to lift 50+ pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
• Access to a smartphone.
• Hardworking, reliable, and detail-oriented.
• Strong interpersonal communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to follow food safety and handling protocols.
• Interest in nonprofit or social justice work strongly preferred.
It's Amazing If You Also Have:
• Prior experience with deliveries, logistics, or warehouse work.
• Comfort with mobile apps and basic technology.
• Familiarity with the Greater Philadelphia area.
Need To Know:
• Monday through Friday, 730am-330pm starting at PWPM each day.
• Fast-paced, on-the-road environment.
• No travel outside of standard assigned routes.
• 17.00 per hour start rate
Reports To:
Logistics Manager. This role has no direct reports.
