Role Highlight

The Program Coordinator will serve as a critical on-the-ground leader for Sharing Excess’ operations at the Produce Market. This role is embedded in the market daily, building relationships with vendors, coordinating food rescue logistics, and ensuring surplus food moves quickly and efficiently to community partners across the five boroughs.

You will be the face of Sharing Excess within the produce market— strengthening vendor trust, solving operational challenges in real time, coordinating volunteers, and helping scale one of the most impactful food rescue programs in the area. This role is hands-on, fast-paced, and deeply relational. Your work will directly translate into thousands of pounds of food reaching families and communities every single day.

Responsibilities Include: 

• Lead daily food rescue logistics from market vendors to recipient partners across The Market
• Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with produce vendors to secure consistent surplus donations
• Communicate daily with community partners including food banks, pantries, fridges and mutual aid groups to coordinate allocations
• Problem-solve operational challenges in real time and adapt to evolving daily conditions
• Vet and stay up-to-date with receiving agencies, current and new
• Ensure compliance with food safety standards and maintain an organized, safe working environment
• Represent Sharing Excess with professionalism, warmth and reliability in all vendor and community interactions
• Identify opportunities to increase rescue volume, improve efficiency and expand partnerships

You’ll Have:

• Full-time availability, primarily Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly in a warehouse environment
• Reliable transportation 
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills
• High emotional intelligence and comfort working with diverse communities
• Exceptional organization and attention to detail
• Comfort working in fast-paced, operational settings
• A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset
• A passion for food access, sustainability and community impact

It’s Amazing If You Also Have:

• Experience working in food rescue, food distribution, logistics or warehouse environments
• Experience managing volunteers or coordinating teams
• Comfort using data systems, spreadsheets or impact tracking tools
• Experience working in startup or high-growth nonprofit environments
• Spanish language proficiency

Salary Range

$55,000 – $62,000 annually, commensurate with experience and location dependant
